Administrative / Biographical History
The Royal Technical College Athletic Club was formed in 1921, as part of the Royal Technical College Students' Representative Council. In 1929, it became a separate body with a separate constitution, but still submitted its budgets to the Students' Representative Council. In 1990, the Club was renamed the University of Strathclyde Sports Union.
The Club set up facilities for many sports including rugby, hockey, football, golf, cricket, boxing, fencing, badminton, table tennis, sailing, basketball and swimming.

Physical Characteristics and/or Technical Requirements
The shirt has faded with washing and wear and is peppered with small tears and holes, some of which have been stitched up. There is a 100 mm long tear to the back of the neck and some staining above the fabric badge.

Custodial History
This shirt belonged to Laurence Stewart, who studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde from 1973-1977 and was a member of the Athletic Club. He represented the University in the high jump event at Scottish Inter-University competitions. At some point during his studies, he was given the shirt, which he wore while competing in 1976 and 1977.
