Scope and Content

In consideration of their service, and of 26s 8d as a gressum, Richard Stepne confirms his gift to Richard Odyn and to Richard's brother John, of a piece of marsh ground with land in Heghfeld [possibly Heckfield, Hampshire], formerly belonging to Robert Seward, lying between lands of Richard de Bysleye and Henry de Lymesye to east and west, and between land of Robert Seward and the road before the ?door of Walter Hereward. An annual quit-rent of 8d payable in two equal instalments is reserved for all services. Witnessed by John ?Morin, John ?Brutun, John de Schaldeford, William le Nyweman, Richard Godard, Robert Hereward, William Hereward, Richard de Ryselye, and others. Tagged pendant black round seal with floral device and illegible legend. Fifteenth- and sixteenth-century identifying endorsements. Further endorsed with a cross.
