Administrative / Biographical History
The Picton estate, Slebech, Pembrokeshire, was in the possession of Charles Edward Gregg Philipps (formerly Fisher), who assumed the surname of Philipps by deed poll in 1857, and was created a baronet in 1887. He married Mary, daughter and heiress of the Rev. James Henry Alexander Philipps (formerly Gwyther). Their heir was Sir Henry Erasmus Edward Philipps, 2nd Bart. The Kilgetty estate, St Issels, Pembrokeshire, was inherited by the family following the marriage of Elizabeth Canon into the Philipps family in the late 17th century.
