Scope and Content

The research papers contain genealogy and photographic record of portraits of the Vernatti family, compiled and presented by Frederik van Kretschmar to Mrs M Noel, 1959-1961, and to Sir John Guinness (date unknown). The material is organised in nine folders (assumed to have been arranged thus by NPG staff on acquisition), the contents of the folders are as follows:

Folder 1 - Letter to Mrs Noel from Frederick van Kretschmar, introducing himself and giving details of his research on the Vermatti family and portraits, 31 Aug 1959

Administrative / Biographical History

Members of the Vernatti family invested in the draining of the Fens, some of the family settled in Britain whilst other parts of the family settled in the Netherlands. Frederik van Kretschmar was descended from the Netherlands branch of the family and the husband of Mrs Noel was descended from the British branch of the family. Both branches of the family held portraits of their Vernatti ancestors.
