Boyd (Mac) McGeoch Collection

Scope and Content

The collection contains material relating to McGeoch's professional life as a tester/fitter at Wildt Mellor and Bromley Ltd. and as a teacher and lecturer of textile and knitwear technology in the School of Textiles at De Montfort University's predecessors, Leicester Regional College of Technology and Leicester Polytechnic. The following list provides an overview of the collection:

  • knitting machine manuals
  • small replacement parts for knitting machines
  • hand drawn and printed knitting patterns
  • fabric samples (Wildt, Mellor & Bromley, Trievera Dolan and Lansil)
  • display boards on knitting and leatherwork
  • a small collection of books, journals and magazines on the textile trade
  • professional correspondence
  • student work including HND and Diploma project books

Administrative / Biographical History

Boyd McGeoch (known as Mac to friends and colleagues) was initially appointed as a part-time and occasional teacher in the School of Textiles at Leicester Regional College of Technology in 1965. Originally only teaching two hours per week he also worked as a fitter/tester for local knitting machine manufacturing firm, Wildt, Mellor and Bromley. He was later appointed as a Lecturer in 1968. He retired in 1987 and passed away in 2010.
