Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Elizabeth Ann Evans was born in Caerphilly in 1855, the daughter of Thomas Benjamin Evans and Elizabeth Evans nee Jones. She received a good standard of education, and qualified as a music teacher, but was forced to retire early in life due to poor health. Miss Evans spent the latter years of her life living in Pontrhydfendigaid, near Aberystwyth. She moved to the area in order to be near to her close friends, including Mrs M E Davies-Roberts, wife of the former Principal of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, T F Roberts. Her health deteriorated further during later life, leaving her virtually crippled. She was nursed through her illness prior to death by her landlady, Mrs B Thomas, and died during February 1929.
