Scope and Content

One softbound scrapbook containing typewritten extracts, notes, photographs and newspaper cuttings relating to Devon archaeological sites entitled 'Earthworks of England: Prehistoric, Roman, Saxon, Danish, Norman and mediaeval'. This is the title of the first item [taken from Earthwork of England: prehistoric, Roman, Saxon, Danish, Norman, and medieval, A. Hadrian Allcroft, 1908] extracted within the scrapbook, with additional drawings, maps and photographs inserted. The volume concentrates mainly on sites within the Southwest of England, including several articles by R. Hanford Worth on Dartmoor archaeology, and by E. Herbert Stone on Stonehenge. It appears to have been compiled by a Devon individual, as the newspaper cuttings are mainly taken from local newspapers.
