Scope and Content

Volume of miscellaneous verse, by various authors including David Garrick (1717-1779), George Keate (1729-1797) and William Dunkin (1706/7-1765), often of a humorous or satirical nature. Verses include:

  • Petition of the Fools to Jupiter, a fable supposed to be written by D[avid] Garrick esq. addressed to the Earl of Chesterfield;
  • The Present Age, 1775, by the late Dr [William] Dunkin;
  • Verse by George Keate [?], Hackney School, c 1780, which opens: here lies an head that often ached.
Information on Garrick and Keate can be found in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. The verses are sometimes sourced and dated, ranging from the mid 18th century to 1780.
