Administrative / Biographical History
Eric James Reid (c 1936 -1970) graduated from the University of Aberdeen MA 1957 and PhD 1961. He was the first PhD student in the Music Department of the University of Aberdeen, during which time he worked closely with Reginald Barrett-Ayres (1920 - 1981), late Reader and Head of Department of Music there. At the time of his death, in a car accident in 1970, he was lecturer in music at Dundee College of Education. By this time he had already written at least 2 ballad operas using the music of the North East, and produced a substantial volume of church music, some of which remained in print c 1981. A short obituary is given in Aberdeen University Review, 44 (1970 - 1971), 112.
