Scope and Content

Richard de Applebi [Appleby, Westmoreland], confirms his gift to William Sirloc and to William's heirs of two virgates of land in Barton 'in librum maritagium cum [Alice] primogenita filia mea'. Reserving quit-rent of 4s for all services due to Richard. Warranty clause binds Richard, upon non-performance, to provide alternative lands to the same value from his Appleby estate. Saving forinsec. Witnessed by Richard's wife Edith, his heir Roger, his son Simon, Walerad, Robert his son, Robert Waleard', H[enry?] his son, Mathew Dispensator, Roger Pesch', William son of Nicholas, Henry son of Ralph, Robert de Bartone, Thomas son of William, Nicholas clerk who dictated this deed, 'et pluribus'. Tag with pendant white round seal (damaged), eagle device. Endorsed in a modern hand: 'Deed of Richard de Appleby / of lands in Barton / No Date'.
