Administrative / Biographical History
The Investors' Mortgage Security Co Ltd was incorporated as a limited liability company in 1891 in Edinburgh, Scotland with a share capital of £500,000 and Sir John Guild as its first chairman. The company invested its member's money in stocks, shares and debentures and acted as an investment trust. The company invested in the American markets, especially in railroads, and appointed several agents there to manage their funds. By 1959 , the company had a capital of nearly £4 million and was managed by Ivory & Sime Ltd, investment trust managers, Edinburgh with who they shared their registered office.
In 1914 , the Second Investors' Mortgage Security Co Ltd was established, with shares being offered to the shareholders of the first company. This Second Investors' Mortgage Security Co Ltd entered into voluntary liquidation in 1965 at which point many of its assets and funds were transferred to the first company.
The Scottish Realisation Trust Ltd was established in 1928 as a wholly owned subsidiary company of Investors' Mortgage Security Co Ltd , sharing the same offices and with Sir John Guild as a director. This company purchased all mortgages and real estate held in the United States from the Investors' Mortgage Security Co Ltd at a cost of £248,000. This company specialised in investing in American mineral rights. In 1975 , the company's investment's were transferred back to the parent company and the Scottish Realisation Trust Ltd was wound up voluntarily in 1976 .
In 1974 , the Investors' Mortgage Security Co Ltd changed its name to Investors Capital Trust Ltd , becoming a public limited company, Investors Capital Trust plc , some time after 1984 . In 2003, the company was still trading with assets of over £400 million, with ISIS Asset Management plc , London, a successor company of Ivory & Sime Ltd , as their investment managers.
