Scope and Content

The Georgian manuscripts include:

  • items purchased for the Library by the Wardrop Fund
  • a valuable menologion (Lives of the Saints) copied in Jerusalem in 1038-40 (MS. Georg. b. 1)
  • a papyrus, which almost certainly came from the Genizah in Cairo
  • notes and correspondence of the Georgian scholar A. Gugushvili.

Access Information

Entry to read in the Library is permitted only on presentation of a valid reader's card (for admissions procedures see http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk).

Acquisition Information

The manuscripts were acquired from the late nineteenth century until 1975; several were donated by the Wardrop Fund. The papers of A. Gugushvili were given to the Library by the executors of W.E.D. Allen in 1975.
