Scope and Content

A collection of letters from eighteenth and nineteenth century political, literary and clerical notabilities, such as Robert Browning, George Crabbe, Coleridge, Gladstone and Ruskin. The letters were collected Michael Tomkinson.

Administrative / Biographical History

Michael Tomkinson (1841-1921) was Mayor of Kidderminster, Sheriff of Worcestershire, member of the Council and Court of Governors of the University of Birmingham.

Acquisition Information

The album was presented by his daughter, Mrs A. F. [Gertrude] Dauglish, who was an active member of the Friends of the Birmingham University Library. The gift is reported in the Librarian's annual report for 1957/58.
