Scope and Content

The Equality & Diversity Steering Group seeks to enable the Gallery to achieve equality of access, and to fully integrate equality and diversity into operational and decision-making processes. In order to achieve this, the Group's purpose is to champion equality and diveristy and review Gallery practices, support and monitor the process of appropriate strategies to provide access and create a diverse and inclusive workforce, support the Gallery's staff training and development, collect and collate examples of good practice, provide a constructive forum and to promote membership of minority network groups.

The Group is chaired by a member of the Director's Group, who is supported by a member of HR. The Group consists of at least one representative of each of the Gallery's departments and a representative from each of the Gallery's minority network groups. Recognised unions may also nominate a member. Members are expected to serve for three years.

The Group aims to meet at least quarterly.

Administrative / Biographical History

The exact formation date of the Group is unknown, although archive records are held from May 2017, when the Group was under it's original title of the Equality Steering Group. Terms of Reference for the Equality and Diversity Steering Group were made in May 2018 and can be found in NPG110/2.
