Whitland Rural District Council Records

Records of Whitland Rural District Council, 1898-1937, comprising an election account book, council estimate and Treasurers' account.

Whitland Rural District Council, Carmarthenshire, was created under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1894. The Council comprised councillors and a chairman and inherited powers from the local sanitary authority and highway board. It became a rating authority in 1925. Rural District Councils were administered by a number of committees and by appointed officers including a Clerk, Treasurer, Sanitary Inspector, Housing Officer, Surveyor and Rating Officer. In 1935, Whitland Rural District Council was merged with Carmarthen Rural District Council.
