Scope and Content

Correspondence, travel diaries and organisation files relating to the life and work of John Stott (1921-2011), the rector of All Souls, Langham Place (1950-1975), Chaplain to the Queen, and prominent evangelical leader.

This collection includes material relating to key evangelical conferences, such as the 1974 International Congress of World Evangelism at Lausanne, and the minutes and reports from organisations which John Stott was instrumental in founding, including Langham Partnership International, the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, the Church of England Evangelical Council, Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion and the Eclectics Society.

The arrangement of the Stott papers reflects the original order of the material when bequeathed to Lambeth Palace Library, reflecting various aspects of his ministry, in particular there are files reflecting the many evangelical organisations and societies with which he worked, evangelical conferences he attended, and issues on which he was consulted.

Acquisition Information

John Stott transferred his papers to Lambeth Palace Library in 2007, due to a move from his flat at Weymouth St (near All Souls Church, Langham Place, where he also had his office) to the College of St Barnabas near East Grinstead. Ownership of the papers was transferred by bequest following his death.
