Papers of Robin Short

Material gathered during Robin Short's career in the Colonial Service. Includes: tour reports; village notebooks; originals of photographs used in his book African Sunset (London: Johnson, 1973); two albums of photographs of Inspector Eric Warrington, Northern Rhodesia Police; one album of photographs of Short's service as a District Officer in Palestine and Northern Rhodesia; a framed photograph of the Commissioner of Police, Mr (later Sir) John Fforde.

Robin Short was a District Officer in Fort Jameson, Mwinilunga, Lundazi and Kasempa, Northern Rhodesia, 1949-1965. He retired shortly after Zambia became independent and later published a book, African Sunset (London: Johnson, 1975) in which he was highly critical of what he saw as the capitulation of Britain to the United National Independence Party.

Records are open to the public, subject to the overriding provisions of relevant legislation, including data protection laws. 24 hours' notice is required to access photographic material.
