Administrative / Biographical History

Angelo Biggi was a publisher and a printer, who was known for his engravings. The images are engravings of Raphael (1483-1520) works in the Vatican palace, published by Angelo Biggi. These include copies from the Stanza della Segnatura ('Room of the Signature') and Stanza di Elodoro (Room of Helodorus).

Engraving is an art technique, in which the design is chiselled into an engraving plate, usually made out of copper, using a burin. By using the tool in different angles and pressures, variations in the width and darkness of the lines are created.
