Scope and Content

Small collection of papers of and relating to the Moir families of Stoneywood and Scotstown, Aberdeenshire, 1831 - 1922. The collection, which was compiled chiefly by William Moir (b 1855), son of John Forbes Moir (1821 - 1890) and Moira Waring (1828 - 1897), contains biographical information relating to members of the Moir families and collateral lines in the nineteenth century, which is not given in the two printed histories of the Moirs (see Administrative History, above). It comprises notes and genealogies compiled by William and Gwen Moir, on the Moirs of Stoneywood and Scotstown, and on the Waring and Rabinel families, 1890 - 1914; autobiographical notes compiled by William Moir, containing details of society in 19th c Aberdeen and Ceylon, c 1914 - 1922; photographs of William Moir, 1857 and c 1880; extract from Moir family Bible, containing notes on marriage and children of John Forbes Moir and Moira Waring, n.d.; volume of poetry by John F. Moir (1821 - 1890), 1831 - 1842; and Plan of the Estate of Park lying in the parish of Drumoak and the Counties of Aberdeen and Kincardine (Aberdeen: Walker and Beattie, surveyors, 1835), with plan and elevation of house, printed list of farms, tenants, land use and acreages.
