Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In April 1961, the Industrial Advisory Council was formed to advise Tynwald on industrial policy for the Isle of Man. The Industrial Office, established at the same time, was responsible for implementing this policy. The work of the Industrial Office included administering grant aid and funding schemes to support industrial growth. The Industrial Advisory Council was replaced on 15 December 1981 by the Industry Board (as a result of The Industry Board Act 1981); however the Industrial Office continued to exist [until at least 1983] implementing policy of the new Industry Board.

Custodial History
Records in S41 were stored in Illiam Dhone House, Douglas by the Treasury. When the Economic Affairs division of the Treasury moved to the Policy and Strategy division of the Cabinet Office it also moved premises to the Government Office. At this point the records were appraised and selected for permanent preservation. Records in S41 were transferred over to the Isle of Man Public Record Office under section 3(4) of the Public Records Act on 23 September 2014 as part of a larger accession of records (A20).
