Administrative / Biographical History

Bodedern is a village and parish situated in western Anglesey, a few miles from Holyhead. The parish church is named after St. Edeyrn. For further administrative details regarding the church, consult Eglwys blwyf Bodedern: braslun o'i hanes (1982) by Dafydd Wyn Wiliam.

In common with other parishes, Bodedern was an instrument of local government with responsibility for poor relief, highways and law and order, which continued until reforms in the late nineteenth century.

The Edeyrn Lodge of the Independent Order of Good Templars in Bodedern was established by Rev. John R. Hughes of Brynteg, following a meeting at the Calvinistic Methodist chapel on 21 March 1873.
