Leila Berg Collection

Papers of the author Leila Berg. The collection includes draft material relating to articles and short stories, published works for children and other published works; some unpublished material; correspondence; financial records; personal papers; and printed books.

Created by Leila Berg during the course of her career as a writer.

At the time of deposit, the majority of the material in the collection was sorted into files and labelled by Berg, and as far as possible her original file divisions have been maintained. Where material was not filed, it has been sorted as seemed appropriate either into existing files or into newly created files. The grouping of Berg's original files into series has been imposed by the archivist. Further information on arrangement can be found at lower levels of the catalogue.

Seven Stories, National Centre for Children's Books, was established as a registered charity and company limited by guarantee in 1996, with the aims of preserving, maintaining and adding to a growing and accessible collection of archival material, artwork and printed books relating to modern British children's literature. The collection is intended to form part of the national heritage in an archive and library of present and future historical interest for the public benefit. (See Memorandum of Association)

Copyright in all original material resides with the creator.

The collection has been appraised, and all duplicate material removed.

Donated to Seven Stories on behalf of Leila Berg by her children, Jenny Ellis and Param [Daniel] Berg, in 2010.

Further papers of Leila Berg relating to her interest in alternative education have been deposited at the Library and Archive of the Institute for Education, University of London.
