Administrative / Biographical History

P. J. C. Marchant was born in 1923 and educated at Pontypridd Intermediate School and the University of Wales. He was on military service between 1942 and 1946 (lieutenant).

In 1950 Marchant entered the Colonial Service in Tanganyika as a cadet; he subsequently held the posts of district officer (1952) and assistant secretary (1964-1966).
