Scope and Content

Turkish Letter Book

The letters are chiefly on military topics relating to the corps of the Janissaries, mostly are simply models but some are real letters e.g. from the Agha (Commander in Chief) of the Janissaries to the Governor of Salonica, p. 8, 17th century. Headings of letters in red, some words dotted in gold. Includes some transliteration in an old hand of some Turkish expressions with interlinear interpretation in Italian. Extensive Arabic-Persian alphabetical word-list. No date or place of writing.
