Scope and Content

Includes staff lists for Northern Nigeria, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968; maps of North-East Nigeria, c1950s-the the 1970s; annual report of the Northern Nigerian Survey, 1956-57; laws of Northern Nigeria, chapter 129, survey, 1963. Memoirs: The Geographical Labourers of Arewa: remembering the Northern Nigerian Survey (introduction and illustrations, edited by Malcolm Anderson, 2004); Nigerian Gypsies [by Joan Butler, 2008]; Where My Caravan Has Rested [by Nora Hunter, 1990].

Administrative / Biographical History

Malcolm Anderson was a colonial officer, appointed as a land surveyor with the Government of Northern Nigeria in 1957. He retired from the service when Surveyor-General of Borno State in 1977 and served as Chief Land Surveyor to the Milton Keynes Development Corporation until 1992.
