Administrative / Biographical History
The Association was founded in 1860 as the Association of Chambers of Commerce of the United Kingdom, and shortly afterwards its name was changed to the Association of British Chambers of Commerce. These Chambers of Commerce were set up throughout Britain as local, independent, non-profit making and non party-political organisations, and were funded by membership subscriptions.
