Deeds and related papers of the Borthwnog estate, 1739-1948.

Administrative / Biographical History

Borthwnog, Llanaber, Merionethshire, was owned by the Vaughan family of Cors y Gedol in the 18th century. The Maddocks family held the land during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In the second half of the 19th century, the estate was occupied by Griffith Williams (alive 1856-1905). By 1919, the estate was held by Lt-Col Lewis Owen Williams. Borthwnog Hall subsequently became a guesthouse.
