    • 1 vol. (7 ff.), with additional blank leaves. Written in a single hand on rectos only. Bound with boards and a vellum spine on which are embossed in black the words BROOKE.- ODE.- DISTRESSED TRADESMEN.- M.S. DUBLIN 1771. Lord Brotherton's bookplate is pasted on to the inside front cover.

Scope and Content

Comprises an English ode, presumably written specially for this occasion. The musical accompaniment is said to have been composed by 'Sigr. Passerini'.

Administrative / Biographical History

Henry Brooke (1703-1783) was an Irish author of poetry and drama, educated at Trinity College, Dublin, who later settled in the city. For fuller details of his life and writings see the Dictionary of National Biography.
