Administrative / Biographical History

Jonathan Owain Reynolds ('Nathan Dyfed', 1814-1891), author and 'eisteddfodwr', was born in the parish of Llanwinio, Carmarthenshire. Despite minimal education he became a noted poet, winning many eisteddfod prizes. He also translated some of Shakespeare's plays into Welsh.
