Scope and Content

These papers reflect the business of the Road Time Trials Council 1937 - 1974, as recorded in the minutes of its various committees. Extensive details of rules, time trial competitions and membership are contained in the files.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Road Time Trials Council grew out of the Road Racing Council which was formed in 1922. The change of title occured in 1937 along with changes in membership: any cycling club was free to join. (Originally, only those clubs which had founded the Road Racing Council or organized open events were entitled to be members.) The aim of the Council was to promote the time trial - an increasingly popular sport. Since 1 December 2002 the Road Time Trials Council has operated as a corporate body under the name Cycling Time Trials.
