Scope and Content

The collection consists of a manuscript of the translation of the Bible into Judaeo-Spanish by James Christie. The Old Testament was translated for the American Bible Society and was published at Constantinople in 1873, the New Testament was translated for the British and Foreign Bible Society and published at Constantinople in 1877.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Reverend James Christie, D.D., was a missionary to the Jews at Constantinople (Istanbul, Turkey). On his return to Scotland he became minister of Gilmerton, Edinburgh. He died on 9 June 1913.
