Scope and Content

The collection contains the business records of the firm and so includes wages books, share ledgers, dividend books, bank ledgers, cash statements, and general papers relating to stocktaking and trading for Markinch and Falkland branches.

Administrative / Biographical History

A co-operative society is a society established on the basis of a joint-stock association, for the production of commodities, or their purchase and distribution for consumption, or for the borrowing and lending of capital among its members. The society will often operate a co-operative store where the members make their purchases and share in the profits or losses.
