Records of Dumbarton Football Club

The collection contains official programmes (1960s-1993), including Sons Review, Dumbarton F.C, Boghead Banter, Scottish League Division one, Clyde View and an assortment of programmes from teams that have played Dumbarton.

The collection also contains ephemera, including Dumbarton F.C. Supporting Club Diary (1989), and official handbook (1959-1960), dinner menu for the 16 June 1972 Civic Reception, one copy of the official match magazine Spider (03 January 1983), and one programme for Dumbarton F.C. Centenary Celebrations (1872-1972).

Dumbaron Football Club was founded in 1872 and is the 4th oldest football club in Scotland. From 1879 to 2000 the club played at Boghead Park before moving to their current home, a new all-seater stadium in the shadow of Dumbarton Rock. Dumbarton were champions in the first two seasons of the Scottish Football League, 1890-91 and 1891-92.
In 1883 Dumbarton won the Scottish cup in an all-West Dunbartonshire tie against the Vale of Leven, emerging 2-1 victors in a replay after drawing the first match 2-2. Dumbarton last played in the top flight of Scottish football in 1985 and since then have competed in the lower divisions.
