Administrative / Biographical History
The firm represented in this collection is probably that known in Aberdeen City Directory for 1837/38, as Knox and Machray's Royal Mail Coach Office, 61 Union Street, William Knox, whose name appears as clerk in the said collection, being also entered therein as a mail and coach contractor at that address. Earlier, in 1825/26, Knox is listed as a clerk in the Royal Mail Office, 63 Union Street; John Dempster then being mail contractor, and Isaac Machray, coach contractor, Royal Hotel, 63 Union Street in the issue for 1831/32.
