Administrative / Biographical History

Walter Leslie Harold Holmes (b. 1898 in London) was educated at Mercer's School, Holborn, St John's College, Oxford, and in France and Germany. As 2nd Lieutenant, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, he acted as an interpreter in French and German on the Western Front in 1918 and was appointed Staff Captain to General Deverell, commanding the 3rd Division in Germany, in Jan. 1919 and Staff Captain to General A. A. Kennedy, Military Governor of British Occupied Germany, in Cologne from June 1919. He emigrated to Canada in 1927.
