Scope and Content

A collection of sixty-nine poetical manuscripts written in various hands during the first and second halves of the seventeenth century, and including many corrected autograph drafts. The table of contents and headings are in an early eighteenth-century hand, and the binding dates from the same period. The volume includes sonnets by Gngora and at least three poems by D. Antonio Pedro Sancho Dvila y Osorio, 4th Marquis of Velada. Most of the named poems in the collection occur in the first manuscript, which has 122 leaves. The rest of the volume is comprised largely of anonymous poems written on single sheets. Many of the later poems are probably unpublished works by the Marquis of Velada's aristocratic friends. They include several corrected drafts. The authors named in the volume include Rodrigo de Alanis, Lupercio Leonardo de Argensola, Fray Hortensio Felix Paravicino de Arteaga, Fr.
