Series 5: agreements and national labour agreements, 1945-1970

Series 6: other papers including correspondence, a history of the union, learners' certificates and transfers of engagement of the Midlands Glass Bevellers and Kindred Trades' Society and United French Polishers Society. Papers relating to membership, including membership cards, and shop officers. Conference reports of the National Federation of Furniture Trade Unions.

Series 7: Branch records including Belfast branch, Birmingham and district, Essex branch, Leeds branch, London and district, Long Eaton branch, Northern Ireland, Olney branch, Oxford branch and Tottenham branch.

Administrative / Biographical History

The National Union of Furniture Trade Operatives (NUFTO) was formed in 1947 from an amalgamation between the National Amalgamated Furnishing Trades' Association and the Amalgamated Union of Upholsterers. The United French Polishers' Society joined the union in 1969 and the Midland Glass Bevellers' and Kindred Trades' Society in 1970. In 1971 the National Union of Furniture Trade Operatives amalgamated with the Amalgamated Society of Woodcutting Machinists to form the Furniture, Timber and Allied Trades Union.
