Scope and Content

This is a collection of personal letters to Robert Moore from Mary Moore while at school in Edinburgh, including an account of a ballooning ascent by Vincenzo Lunardi in 1786. There is also a bill for making a pair of satin slippers, 1788.

Administrative / Biographical History

Mary Moore, born 1770, was the only surviving child of Robert Moore, of Blairston (d. 1801). Robert Moore became an MD after studying Medicine at Edinburgh University, in London, and at St. Omer. In 1784 he had married Mary Mitchell of London. In 1793, their daughter Mary married David Cathcart who later became Lord Alloway.
