Records of Stoddard International plc, Design Archive, Pine Cone

This material is held atUniversity of Glasgow Archive Services

Scope and Content

A selection of medium sized design sketches and design patterns from the 20th century featuring mainly floral and Persian patterns with pine cone, peacock feather or Paisley pattern motifs. Some of the designs are in the format of colour photographs or computer-aided designs (CAD) rather than being hand painted and most items feature design names and numbers. A few designs bear the letters GG which could refer to George Grant, Head of Design at A F Stoddard & Co Ltd from the 1980s onwards, while there are also designs by, amongst others, W Holden, Ronnie Wilkie and A Glass. One or two of the designs also feature pattern numbers in the form of 2 or 3 letters (eg. 'LEC' or similar), and as such, can potentially be cross-referenced with two design studio record books titled 'Letter Books' (Catalogue reference: STOD/201/8/5/1-2), often revealing further information such as dates and designers.

This description is part of the Design Archive  which is divided into the 142 sections, each with its own separate description.
