Scope and Content

In consideration of homage and service, and of two marks, Theobald de Berle [probably Barley, Hertfordshire] confirms his gift to Anselm son of Benjamin, of two acres of land in the field of Berle, lying between lands of Walter son of Katherine and of Hugh Bunt'. An annual rent of 5d is reserved for all services saving forinsec and royal service. At Berle, witnessed by Master Peter Kardun, Roger de Kayli, Henry de Benden', Ossebert de Hadleya, William le Moyne, Robert Gunt', Geoffrey de Meldeburn, William son of Jordan, Nicholas le Frankelin, Nicholas de Barenton [Barrington?], Ralph son of Roger of ?Scarpenho, and many others.
