Administrative / Biographical History
Sir Charles Campbell Woolley was born at Barry, South Wales, in 1893 and educated at University College, Cardiff. As a 2nd Lieutenant, 8th Battalion, South Wales Borderers, he served briefly on the Western Front before serving as an Intelligence Officer in Salonika. He was awarded the MC (Military Cross) in 1917. Later he served in Ceylon and Nigeria, reaching the rank of Colonel in 1940.
