Records of the Mote Estate and the Williamston Estate involving the Scourfield family and the Saunders-Davies family of Pentre

Mote Estate sales particulars and deeds, 1772, 1917-1958; correspondence, 1922-1938; including from the Trustees of Henry Gwyn Davies-Scourfield, 1922-1936; personal papers, 1914-1935, other estate papers, 1897-1938; Sir Owen Henry Phillips Scourfield papers, 1909-1927; colliery correspondence, 1912-1938; Williamston estate, 1909-1937; and Saunders-Davies of Pentre papers, 1922-1965.

The Scourfield family had lived at the Mote, New Moat, Pembrokeshire, from the time of Edward I, until William Henry Scourfield moved to Robeston Hall in 1780. On his death in 1805, his son, also named William Henry Scourfield, the last member in the male descent moved back to Mote. He died without issue in 1843, and left the estate to a descendant of his sister, Elizabeth Anne Scourfield. She had married Colonel Owen Phillips of Williamston in 1804, and left New Moat to their son, John Henry Phillips (1808-1876). He married Augusta Lort Phillips of Lawrenny Park in 1845. He took the surname Scourfield in 1862, and was created Baronet in 1876. He was succeeded by his son, Sir Owen Henry Phillips Scourfield (1847-1921), 2nd Baronet, who died without issue. The Estate was inherited by his cousin, Henry George Saunders-Davies of the Pentre, who took the name Scourfield by Royal License in 1922. He was succeeded by his son, Colonel David Gwyn Davies-Scourfield, who sold the property after WW2. It was demolished in 1926.
