Papers of Charles H. Feinstein, 1932-2004

Feinstein is best known for calculating the size and structure of the British economy from the present day back to the Industrial Revolution. The papers relating to this, known as the 'National Income, Expenditure and Output of the United Kingdom, 1855-1965', are included in section A of the archive. Also covered in this collection are papers relating to Feinstein's specialist work 'Studies in capital formation in the United Kingdom, 1750-1920', a collaborative work edited by himself and Sidney Pollard and 'Gross domestic fixed capital formation', concerned with measuring the extent and composition of the nation's capital fund and assessing its contribution to the growth of output, are included in section B. The papers (consisting primarily of figures and workings) have been arranged, where possible, to follow the order presented in the final publications and cross-references to chapters in the final publications have been given. Where possible, bibliographic references have been given in this handlist.

Charles Feinstein was born on 18 March 1932 and died on 27 November 2004. As an economic historian Feinstein had academic roles at both Clare College, Cambridge and All Souls College, Oxford, and was known for helping to create the Masters in Social and Economic History at the University of Oxford.
