Administrative / Biographical History

Salford township was in the ancient ecclesiastical parish of Manchester. In 1844 a charter incorporated the area of Salford township and the part of Broughton township south of the River Irwell as the Borough of Salford. In 1921 the three townships, Salford, Broughton and Pendleton were amalgamated into one township called Salford township. Salford township was within Salford poor law Union.
