Administrative / Biographical History

John Pakenham Stilwell of Hilfield, Yately (1832-1921) was the son of John Gilliam Stilwell, banker and navy agent and Ellen Mary Stilwell. The family was prominent in London society in the 19th century and gave support to many charitable causes. Together with Richard Twining, tea merchant and Thomas Sambroke, coal merchant John Gilliam Stilwell helped found and raise funds for a hospital for the poor in London. John Pakenham Stilwell was a member of the Board of Management of the London Homeopathic Hospital from 1882 and from 1893 was the Board Chairman.
He married Georgina Elizabeth Stevens in1860 and they had eight children.
