Scope and Content

This collection of material includes drafts of speeches given at Edinburgh University when Tuffier was awarded the degree of LL.D. in 1927. There are also: several typed drafts of papers, lectures and notes, including, Lister discours, Etude clinurgicale sur 230 greffes ovariennes, and French and American medical science in the far-west; newspaper cuttings mostly on Tuffier's work, also a cutting on Miss Carrie Patterson who was one of the nurses in attendance on Monsieur Antoine Emmanuel Ernest Monis (1846-1929), the French Premier 1911, who was injured by the fall of an aeroplane (Tuffier had corresponded with Patterson); visiting cards; postcards; assorted notes; telegrams; and, letters to Patterson from Dr. Theodore Clarkson Merrill.

Administrative / Biographical History

The French surgeon Theodore Martin Tuffier (1857-1929) was a pioneer in surgery of the lungs, heart and blood vessels. He was an advocate of spinal anaesthesia.
