Scope and Content

This small group of papers consists of a little family material, documentation of Pugsley's career, honours and awards including the move to Bristol, papers relating to the design, construction and opening of the Queen's Building to house the University's Faculty of Engineering, and Pugsley's lectures, publications and addresses, 1949-1984.

Administrative / Biographical History

Pugsley was born in Wimbledon and educated at Rutlish School, Merton and London University. He worked at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, the Royal Airship Works, Cardington and the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough (Head of Structural and Mechanical Engineering 1941-1945) before moving to Bristol University as Professor of Civil Engineering where he remained for the rest of his career. He was elected FRS in 1952.
