Administrative / Biographical History

The Royal Northern Agricultural Society was formed in 1843, for the purposes of sponsoring research into agricultural improvements and of holding regular shows in Aberdeen and the surrounding area. These shows promoted competition and high standards in animal husbandry and farming skills such as butter-making, ploughing, smithwork, etc.. The Society also created a forum for communication between farmers in the area.
