Administrative / Biographical History

Robert Applegarth was born in Kingston-on-Hull in 1834 and held the position of General Secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and joiners between 1862-1871. He was also a member of the Reform League, the London General Council of the International Working Men's Association and the London Chamber of Commerce, and a delegate to the International Congress at Basle in 1869. Applegarth died in July 1924.
