'Ecological conditions in selected areas of woodlands: Reports of Cambridge Party and Summarized Report for England and Wales'.
In summer 1940 while coniferous plantations were being felled, surveys were made to obtain data on factors governing the growth of conifers in England. The work was directed by Professor H.G. Champion of the Imperial Instiute of Forestry and carried out by 7 parties. East Anglia was assigned to the Cambridge party, A.S. Watt, E.F. Warburg, V.J. Chapman, G. Metcalfe, and covered forestry, ecology, soils and pathology. The work was continued in 1941 by Watt, Warburg, D.G. Catcheside, and Chapman. In 1944 Champion wrote a report on the results from all parties in England and Scotland, and submitted it to the Forestry Commission.
